miscellanious notes

I am so looking forward to having next week off. I wish that I had some time off before christmas, though, to finish up a little last-minute shopping. Most of my shopping is done, but I have a handful of things to pick up. Shopping in the daytime is, to me, much preferred to shopping at night after work.
My grandfather passed away last week, and his funeral was saturday. This explains my absense from the ghost of monkshood show, santacon, and all the other events scheduled for the same day. I was indisposed.
I woke up yesterday suddenly entirely stuffy and scratchy. That's an unfortunate but expected way to spend the holidays. If I am fortunate, it may clear out before christmas, but my "christmas cheer" may rely heavily on antihistamines, decongestants, expectorants, and analgesics/NSAIDs.
While I cannot determine with 100% accuracy, I definitely recognize that the various sources of licorice flavoring have distinct characterics. Of these, my least favorite seems to be licorice root. In order, I'd say: aniseseed, star anise, fennel, licorice root. Star anise is overpowering and it's easy to go overboard with it, but with skill it can be delicious. licorice root is too... woody. its "licorice" flavor is less sweet and kind of dirty, if that makes sense. fennel has a good taste, but it's pretty mild. Regular aniseseed is the most well-rounded. Its flavor is pure and strong but not overpowering.
I am getting a haircut today. I urgently need one before christmas pictures, but didn't have time to get one before grandaddy's funeral stuff. I very nearly went to someone other than melanie for the first time in many years. The person on the phone told me that melanie's first opening was next wednesday, and I asked if Aura had any openings, but then she discovered an opening in melanie's book for this afternoon. short hair, here I come!
Johnny Switchblade is headed back soon. I hope he has a safe trip, whichever route he chooses to take. If he does take I-40, may he not get stuck in Amarillo!
...and as usual, the semantec "lunch alarm" scan goes off in the middle of my post. Thank you, good night!

Date: 2005-12-21 08:30 pm (UTC)I don't know where the new house is, and I don't have anything to bring. but I'll definitely try to come. I won't have time to cook anything, probably, so I may be bringing booze or something.
